Stage 8 of 8 - Final Stage

6+ Months: Your Final Results

Congratulations - you've completed your recovery journey. Your implants have fully settled, and you're now enjoying your final results. Here's what to know for the years ahead.

Your Final Results

At 6 months, the drop and fluff process is complete. What you see now is your final result. Your breasts will continue to look natural and feel soft, with the implants fully integrated with your tissue.

What You Can Expect

  • Natural appearance: Implants move naturally with your body.
  • Soft feel: Breasts feel soft and natural to touch.
  • Stable position: Implants have settled into their permanent position.
  • Fading scars: Scars continue to fade and will improve over 12-18 months.
  • Full sensation: Most patients have full sensation restored, though some numbness may persist.

Recovery Complete

You've successfully navigated your breast augmentation recovery. The journey from preparation to final results is complete. We hope you're delighted with your new look and the confidence it brings.

Long-Term Care

While your recovery is complete, there are some long-term considerations for maintaining your results.

Regular Monitoring

  • Self-examination: Regularly check your breasts for any changes in shape, feel, or comfort.
  • Annual check-ups: Consider annual reviews with your surgeon, especially in the first few years.
  • Mammograms: Continue regular breast screening. Inform technicians you have implants so they use appropriate techniques.
  • Be aware of changes: Report any sudden changes in size, shape, or sensation.

Implant Longevity

Modern breast implants are designed to last many years, but they're not lifetime devices:

  • Average lifespan: Most implants last 10-20 years or longer.
  • No expiry date: Implants don't need to be replaced at a specific time if they're functioning well.
  • Replacement may be needed: Some women choose to replace or remove implants due to complications, changes in preference, or age-related changes.
  • Rupture detection: Modern cohesive gel implants don't "leak" like older implants. MRI can detect ruptures if suspected.

Lifestyle Considerations

Exercise and Activity

  • No restrictions - enjoy all activities and sports.
  • Wear supportive sports bras during high-impact exercise.
  • Chest exercises are fine and help maintain muscle tone around implants.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

  • Breast augmentation doesn't prevent pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  • Most women with implants can breastfeed successfully.
  • Breasts will change during pregnancy regardless of implants.
  • Some women choose revision surgery after pregnancy due to natural breast changes.

Weight Changes

  • Significant weight fluctuations can affect how your implants look.
  • Maintaining a stable weight helps preserve your results.
  • Natural ageing will cause some changes over time - this is normal.

When to Contact Us

While complications are rare, contact the clinic if you notice:

  • Capsular contracture: Hardening of the tissue around the implant, causing firmness or distortion.
  • Changes in shape or size: Sudden or unexplained changes.
  • Pain or discomfort: New onset pain that doesn't resolve.
  • Implant rippling: Visible wrinkling of the implant through the skin.
  • Asymmetry: New asymmetry that wasn't present before.

Keep Your Records

Keep a record of your implant details (manufacturer, model, size, serial number). This information is provided after surgery and is useful for future reference or if you ever need imaging or additional surgery.

Scar Care Continues

Scars continue to mature for 12-18 months:

  • They'll continue to fade from pink to white.
  • Continue protecting from sun exposure.
  • Silicone treatments can be used for the full 12 months.
  • Most scars become very faint and easily hidden.

Sharing Your Experience

If you're happy with your results:

  • Consider sharing your experience in a review to help others.
  • Before and after photos help prospective patients understand results.
